About Us

We envision a world where everyone feels empowered to take action in solving climate change. To create this future, climate action begins in the classroom.

OUR STORY

The Michigan Climate Education Hub launched in January 2025, following efforts that began in 2023 to create a centralized resource for teachers and students. Developed through partnerships with the Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE), Michigan Climate Action Network (MiCAN), and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), the hub provides place-based climate education resources that reflect Michigan’s unique environmental context. The hub embodies SubjectToClimate’s vision: A future where every child learns about climate change and becomes a steward of our planet.

OUR FOUNDING ORGANIZATIONS

The Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) membership-based organization whose mission is to support, inspire and empower a diverse network of individuals with a passion for environmental and outdoor learning. As an affiliate of the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), MAEOE is working towards the advancement of environmental literacy to create a more just and sustainable future for all Michiganders. To that end, MAEOE works in collaboration with the Michigan Climate Action Network and other partners to support educators throughout the state in delivering high quality interdisciplinary climate change education.
Working side-by-side with partners at local, regional, state and federal levels, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) safeguards Michigan’s environment through the management of air, water, land, and energy resources while supporting the economic growth and development crucial for Michigan's future. EGLE houses Michigan’s Office of Climate and Energy, which leads implementation of the MI Healthy Climate Plan, and works to promote statewide climate change education through its statewide Environmental Education and Michigan Green Schools programs.
The Michigan Climate Action Network (MiCAN) has grown from a small but committed group of passionate individuals to a deeply impactful force for change, driving forward the conversation and the bounds of what is possible for urgently needed climate action in Michigan. Our mission is to amplify, connect, and support the people, organizations, and communities demanding urgent, bold, and equitable climate change solutions for a just transition to a resilient future. Our strategies include serving as 1) the megaphone that elevates climate as a priority, 2) the switchboard that connects a more powerful climate justice movement, and 3) the central hub that sustains advocates. Our vision is to be a model for movement building and ensure a powerful network of climate leaders inspire durable cultural shifts that lead to a more just, equitable, resilient, and sustainable future for all Michiganders.
