Synopsis
- This line graph and data tables show data on production versus consumption-based CO2 emissions per capita, beginning in 1990.
- The annual consumption-based emissions are adjusted for trade. If a country imports goods the CO2 emissions needed to produce the goods are added to its domestic emissions; if it exports goods then the emissions from producing the goods are subtracted.

- There are multiple layers of data to explore and navigate. Teachers should familiarize themselves with the various capabilities of the interactive and notice the various ways to move between datasets. For instance, the chart can be viewed as world data or as individual country data. Selecting the "play" arrow will move through the chart/table to show how the data has changed over time.
- Because the interactive provides so many options for viewing the data, students may need to be provided with clear instructions as to which dataset to explore.

Production-based CO2 emissions are compared with Consumption-based CO2 emissions to get the net CO2 emissions per capita. Data from tonnes of carbon to tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) sources were normalized using a conversion factor of 3.664. This resource is insightful for students to explore and understand the adjustments and actual comparisons. The resource is recommended for teaching.
